Sumitomo wins orders for eight aframax tankers

Japanese shipbuilder Sumitomo Heavy Industries has won orders for up to eight aframax crude oil tankers, with four from Hong Kong-based Wah Kwong and four from Greek shipowner Thenamaris. Each owner has an order for two firm 112,000 dwt vessels with two options attached. The Thenamaris website indicates an overall length of 237 m, beam of 44 m, and their two vessels being allocated yard numbers 1389 and 1390 with delivery towards the end of 2017 and early 2018. The Wah Kwong order was placed last year but with no delivery details disclosed it is estimated that they will be delivered in 2017.
